COVID pandemic caused a lot of changes in our activities and our daily routine came to a standstill. Our biggest advantage of attending the college, interacting with our friends, having academic discussions with faculties came to a grinding halt. As the whole world was directionless on how to grapple the pandemic, the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) came as a bolt from the blue. In order to battle against the crisis and to continue with the momentum of knowledge acquisition, our Institute tied up with Coursera, EdX and other online certification platforms. A lot of courses in Coursera from prestigious universities were offered at free of cost to SRMites. With this provided opportunity, I have completed 36 courses across various disciplines.

NPTEL being the prestigious online course conducted by MHRD through the premier institutions of India namely IITs, IISCs had immensely filled up the void arising out of closure of colleges. NPTEL recognizes the top performers in each subject as a topper. I have been accorded as topper in two exams namely Steam Power Engineering and Laws of Thermodynamics. Apart from this, NPTEL also recognizes high scorers with medals like gold medal for students who had secured 90% or above and silver medal for students who had secured 75% or above. I have been granted two gold medals and three silver medals. Besides, NPTEL also recognizes the participants who had successfully completed four or more courses in a single semester as an NPTEL Believer. As I have attended four exams and came out successfully with good results, I have been recognized as an NPTEL Believer.

Bicycle Design Competition (BDC) 2023

The SAE India Southern Section (SAEISS) Bicycle Design Competition (BDC) 2023 was conducted at PSNA College of Engineering and Technology in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. Department of Mechanical Engineering – SRMIST Vadapalani campus students participated in the event and secured overall 4 th Rank and 3 rd Prize in Best Design category. Our students team Motonix achieved this feat in their maiden attempt.

The Bicycle Design Competition of 2023 was an exhilarating showcase of innovation, creativity, and sustainability. Held in a modern and eco-friendly venue, the event brought together bicycle enthusiasts, designers, engineers, and manufacturers. Sustainability and eco-consciousness were the driving themes of the competition. Participants were challenged to create bicycle designs that not only offered cutting-edge performance and functionality but also had a minimal environmental impact. Designers were encouraged to use sustainable materials, explore recyclable components, and incorporate renewable energy sources into their designs.
The judging panel was composed of industry & Academic experts, environmentalists, and cycling enthusiasts, ensuring a fair evaluation of the designs based on various criteria, including innovation, aesthetics, usability, and environmental impact. Bicycle design competition is an opportunity to provide undergraduate engineering students with a real-life engineering challenge. It has been designed to provide exposure to the kinds of situations that engineers face in their real-life work environment. Attendees had the opportunity to test ride the bicycles and interact with the designers, gaining insights into the thought processes behind the creations.
