About Robotics Club
Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation, structural disposition, manufacture and application of robots and computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing. These technologies deal with automated machines that can take the place of humans, in hazardous or manufacturing processes, or simply just resemble humans. Many of today’s robots are inspired by nature contributing to the field of bio-inspired robotics.
The concept and creation of machines that could operate autonomously dates back to classical times, but research into the functionality and potential uses of robots did not grow substantially until the 20th century. Throughout history, robotics has been often seen to mimic human behavior, and often manage tasks in a similar fashion. Today, robotics is a rapidly growing field, as we continue to research, design, and build new robots that serve various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially, or militarily.

The Robotics club of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadapalani has been conducting various activities related to the field of Robotics like WORKSHOPS, TECHNICAL COMPETITIONS and OUTREACH activities. The club aims to train our young minds in the latest field of Robotics and encourages students from all branches of Engineering. At present the club has more than 850 student members from SRM Vadapalani.

During the past years many workshops were conducted. The first workshop was held during the inception of the club in March 2011. Every year at least two workshops are being conducted. The previously conducted workshops were advanced robot designs with Arduino, PIC microcontrollers. Apart from these workshops, Gesture controlled, Mind controlled, under water robots, Sixth Sense (vision controlled) robots, Quadcopter, Biped (walking) robot workshops were conducted and student gained hands on experience in designing and implementing these advanced robots. Internationally recognized certificates were given to the students along with bots. The best team among these are selected and sent for National Robotics Competition (NRC) conducted in IIT Bombay.

Another major activity of this club is the National level techfest XION. This is an annual event conducted every year during the month of March. This event attracts students from all over India and organises various robotic competitions like Robo Soccer, Pick and Place robots, Line follower robots, Obstacle avoiding robots and RC racing robots, technical paper presentations and other fun events. These techfests are addressed by eminent scientists from reputed organizations like DRDO, CVDRE, NIOT, Nokia etc. The robotics club also encourages in knowledge sharing with the community and organizes various OUTREACH activities that impart technical skill related to robots to school students.
