The SAE India collegiate club of SRM IST Vadapalani Campus was started by a group of like-minded third year students from the department of Mechanical Engineering in 2011-2012. The club was formed with 110 members from the department of mechanical engineering. A decade since its inception the club has hosted several Intra and inter-college SAE events. The members of the club actively participate in national-level events organized by the SAE community across India. The college Kingpin racing team has also won several accolades in the Supra SAE event. The SAE members often attend the webinars and expert talks on topics that are much needed for the modern engineer.

The Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF) was set up in 1950 to promote education, research, training and development to Indian foundrymen and to serve as a nodal point of reference between the customers and suppliers of the Indian foundry industry on a global scale. With its Head Quarter in Kolkata, IIF presently services the entire country through its 26 Chapters under four Regional Offices located at Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The Institute is a member of the World Foundrymen Organisation (WFO) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). This club organizes Conclave, expert talks and Industry visits for our students.

National Institution for Quality and Reliability (NIQR), a premier institution working for the cause of promoting quality in India organizes Global Convention once in two years with a challenging theme that reflects the contemporary needs of the country. The theme for the year 2018 was “Digital Quality for Disruptive Future”, the 16th Global Convention of NIQR organized on 10th and 11th August 2018 at Chennai Trade Center. The event would enable the participant and delegates to understand, assimilate and prepare themselves for smart business and industries with the advent of Industry 4.0 revolution and evolving disruptive technologies in the rapidly changing technological world. During this two day convention, there were many technical talks by industrial professionals on the convention theme under various session chairs. In addition to this, there are many awards presented by NIQR in various field. They are NIQR – Ashok Leyland Award for Outstanding Organization, NIQR – Lucas – TVS award for outstanding service organization, NIQR – India Piston award for Life Achievement Award, NIQR – TVN – KIDAO award for outstanding educational institution, NIQR – Accurate award for outstanding quality man, NIQR – Schwing Stetter award for outstanding MSME, and NIQR – Best Student award.

The convention was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri. Ma Foi K Pandiarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Official Language, Culture and Archeology, Govt of Tamil Nadu. Later during the award function, our students Lakshmi Narasimhan and Ravi Manish, 4th Year B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Vadpalani Campus were awarded as Best Student Award. The award was presented by Dr. M. Anandakrishnan, former Vice Chancellor of Anna University, Chennai and  Mr. B. Santhanam, Managing Director – Saint Gobain Glass India Pvt Ltd.

The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) is the leading National Professional non-profit making Society for the Technical Education System in our country with the motto of Career Development of Teachers and Personality Development of Students and overall development of our Technical Education System.   At present, ISTE has a very large and an effective membership base consisting of more than 1,02,985 Life Members, 5,54,094 Student Members,  2410 Institutional Members (including IITs, IISc.., NITs and other leading technical institutions), 1214 Faculty Chapters and 1322 Students’ Chapters and 17 Sections throughout the country.

Indian Society for Technical Education, ISTE – Faculty and Students Chapters were inaugurated on 24th February 2016 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University), Vadapalani campus, Chennai.

The newly formed club by the department of Mechanical Engineering SRM VDP aims to explore the area of Automation and Robotics. The club organized several webinars in relevant areas which would benefit students to gain knowledge about the advanced automation and robotics technology used in the industry. A lot more exciting programs have been planned for the future.
