ICGS SHIP VISIT at Chennai Port Trust

On the 3rd of February, the class representatives along with faculty members and HOD-CSE visited Chennai Port Trust where they got a chance to visit the ICGS Shaunak (Indian Coast Guard Ship) harboured at Chennai Port. The ship has been designed and built indigenously by M/s Goa Shipyard Limited and is fitted with advanced navigation and communication equipment and sensors.
The female staff and the girl students were given a ceremonial salute when they entered the ship. It was a proud moment for the girls to receive this honor from the defense people on board. They were briefed by the Coast Guards on deck about their duties and activities on safeguarding our nation. The on-deck personnel played a video about the achievements of coast guard forces and motivated the engineering students to take up Indian Coast Guard as one of the possible career choices, if they are passionate enough to serve the nation.
The students were then taken to the control room, guided by the coast guard personnel at every stage, where they were shown the steering controls and other advanced technologies. Students also visited the sick bay which contained all medical equipment and was very much capable of being converted into an operation theater.
Finally, Dy.Inspector General, Mr.Kumar Chandan Singh – Commanding Officer delivered the vote of thanks and encouraged every student in the crowd to follow their passion. The event was coordinated by Dr.Golda Dilip, Mr.Muthurasu and Mr.Rajavel of the DCSE.
