The Department of Language, Culture and Society, established in 2009, recognises the growing importance of language proficiency in the globalised professional landscape. The department, offering courses in French, Japanese and German, aims to equip technology professionals with a competitive edge by developing skills that will enable them to succeed in multinational companies and explore opportunities abroad.

The Department plays a vital role in preparing students to be placement ready by strengthening their communication skills, enhancing soft skills, and integrating industry oriented curriculum. Through regular mock interviews, group discussions, placement workshops, and guidance on professional certifications, students gain the confidence and competence to meet corporate expectations. The department also fosters research and analytical skills alongside digital literacy, ensuring graduates are not only linguistically proficient but also professionally competitive.

12th International Day of Yoga – 2026

The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated with great enthusiasm at SRM Institute of Science and Technology on 21 June 2026 at 7:15 a.m. in “C” Block. The event, organized under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” witnessed the active participation of students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff members, reflecting a shared commitment to health, harmony, and holistic well-being.

The Chief Guest, Dr. Rajini Kumar Palaniyappan, addressed the gathering and highlighted the significant role of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, emotional stability, and healthy ageing. His insightful speech encouraged everyone to incorporate yoga into their everyday lives.

Gravity 4.0

The InkVerse Club of the Department of English and Foreign Languages organised ‘Gravity 4.0’, an intercollegiate literary event at SRM IST, VDP. Mr. Mohammed Farhatullah, Contemporary poet and Assistant Professor of New College, was invited to be the Chief Guest. The event began with the invocation at 9:30 am.

The Chief Guest shared his valuable insights on taking inspirations for writing and refinement by the self. He also shared his experience as a poet involving the challenges in the path of becoming a fine writer. He engaged the audience with active interactions on Language skills, Creative Writing and Literature. Nearly 350 students from various colleges participated in the literary competitions.

SRMVMUN 2025

The Department of English and Foreign Languages, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM IST, Vadapalani campus, organized the Model United Nations on 19/09/2025, 20/09/2025 & 21/09/2025. The 7th edition of SRMVMUN 2025 began with an inauguration ceremony on 19th September at 10.45 am. Mr. Sam Daniel Stalin, Bureau Chief, NDTV, addressed all delegates of the Modal secretariat as the chief guest. His valuable insights and emphasis on the power of words, negotiations and representation enabled students to realize the worth of Secretariats and leadership.

This conference consist of 6 committees namely Disarmament and International Security Council (DISEC), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Economic & Social Council (ECOSOC), All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) along with International Press and Photo Journalism The Overall Trophy with the maximum delegates was won by VIT, Vellore. With more than 300 delegates from various colleges , made the conference a grand and successful event.
